About the Artist

Charlotte Baynes
For 27 years, I have worked professionally as an artist-each day, learning something new... in Barcelona, Cádiz, Granada & Whitstable-inspiring places with fabulous light. I love to experiment with oils, acrylics, graphite, charcoal, pastels and fabrics...especially upcycled/reclaimed fabrics. My art is representative, comprising several portraits + I create monoprints, usually with thinned oil paint on glass. Often, I use intense colours, at times abandoning my brush in favour of lavish injections of paint. Despite these seemingly random acts, I am concerned with precision and emotion + a desire to create a genuine response to my subject. People I connect with, my Burmese/British heritage, environment, music and Flamenco dance...all have a huge influence on my work.
